Boosteroid Introduces AV1 Codec for Improved Streaming Efficiency

At Boosteroid, we’re always working to deliver a smoother, more efficient gaming experience for users around the world. As part of this ongoing effort, we’ve begun rolling out support for AOMedia Video 1 (AV1) codec, intending to make it available to all users with the flagship (and today the only) Ultra subscription tier.

Streaming with AV1 is currently supported in the browser on devices that include native AV1 hardware decoding.

AV1 stands out for its ability to maintain excellent visual quality while significantly reducing bandwidth consumption. Compared to the older H.264, AV1 can deliver the same or better image quality while using 50% less bitrate. This means smoother gameplay and clearer visuals, even on lower-bandwidth connections. Currently, AV1 on Boosteroid is supported at up to 40 Mbps, which is more than enough for high-fidelity 4K streaming using this codec.

By using lower bitrates to achieve better image quality than older codecs, AV1 makes it easier for users with metered or inconsistent internet connections to enjoy high-quality gameplay.

The AV1 adoption on Boosteroid is in the early stage, and we’re closely monitoring user feedback to ensure a stable, high-quality experience. For users who prefer the previous setup, AV1 can be disabled anytime from your account settings.

As Boosteroid continues to grow and reach users across diverse regions and connection types, we remain focused on meeting the needs of every player. The introduction of AV1 is one example of how we’re working to make cloud gaming more accessible, efficient, and enjoyable for everyone.

Your feedback plays a vital role in our evolution.
